Smartphone apps have presented a quick, inexpensive, and easy way for people to screen their hearing. The question is how accurate and reliable are these apps and what impact are they having on people with measurable hearing loss. Are these screening apps reliable? Do they generate greater patient flow in our office? Do they actually lead to early intervention? This presentation will explore the future of hearing screenings, examine their current shortcomings, compare popular smartphone apps, and discuss their potential for early intervention in terms of protection and amplification, as well as speculate further into the future on their use.
